Uncomfortable on roller coasters? Maybe you love the ones at amusement parks, but you’re tired of the one you’re riding right now—the roller coaster of trouble, of regret, of pain. Life throws everyone for a loop, at least once in awhile.
One day you’re coasting along, confident you can handle the little hill ahead. But then comes the downward spiral, followed by the corkscrew turn. Your stomach drops. Fear explodes in your heart. Nausea grips you. You find yourself wanting to yell, “Let me off right now!” When life careens out of control, wanting off makes sense. Life in our fallen world can be scary. It often hurts. It makes sense to get out and inspect the track, to make sure the safety systems are engaged and working. Engineers design roller coasters to convince us we are powerless. The coaster careens out of control or seems to. But the truth is that something we can’t see holds each car to the track. Riders are perfectly safe, even though at times we feel absolutely unsafe. Life here on earth is a lot like that. We live by faith, not by sight. We live by faith in God’s promise to hold us in his strong, unbreakable grip. We live by faith that he is in control. Before you step into each new day, unsure of what may lie around the next bend, take time to stand on the promise of your never-changing, all-powerful Savior, the one who says:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not
give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be
troubled and do not be afraid."
