Church History
Messiah Missionary Baptist Church was organized on November 7, 1957 by Dr. Richard Dixon. The first church started and was located at 16 Chase Street in Pontiac, MI. Rev. Roy C. Cummings was called to be the first Pastor of Messiah, giving his service for 32 years. The church grew under his leadership from 14 members to membership ranging in the hundreds.
The Lord added souls daily, causing Messiah to move to various locations here in the city which included: 168 Prospect Street, 575 E. Pike Street, 1380 University Drive, and 505 Auburn. In 1988 we were blessed to move to our present location (15 Mark Street at West Huron) where Pastor Cummings was able to see before being called home to be with the Lord.
In March of 1990 the Lord blessed Messiah with its second pastor, Rev. Sylvester Thompson, making him only the second pastor in the church's history. Under the leadership of Pastor Sylvester Thompson God continued to bless Messiah by adding new members and ministries. On Sept. 24, 2023, Pastor Thompson retired after giving his service to the church and the Pontiac Community for 33yrs. God has now graced us with Pastor Elect David L. Thompson III who will conrinue to lead us to higher heights.
At Messiah Missionary Baptist Church you can find comfort, healing, Christian education, counseling and help for those in need. We continue to strive to be “An On Mission Church”.

I asked the entire church to unite in the spirit of togetherness.May we leave our "footprints in the sands of time" so future generations may know that this is a church whos view of humanity is universal. Who embraces persons of all races, colors. and stations of life. A church where: the unsaved can find salvation; the lonely can find friends; the burdened can find compassion; the out casted will be recieved; the weak will find strength; and troubled will find peace. Remember Phil 3:14, "We press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus".

As the pastor of this great church, I am thankful and grateful because God deserves all the praise and the best we can give Him."Without a vision the people perish." That vision must include what He rightly deserves, at any cost - physically, spiritually and financially. Messiah, you have proven it!! It has not always been easy, sometimes up, soemtomes down, but you believe THE BIBLE. "i can do all things though Christ which strengthen me." Always remember, you can if you think you can for God is willing to give you everything you ask for if you only believe.
